D2.3 Open Reference Architecture and Deployment - Interim Specification This technical deliverable includes an interim specification of the Vconect platform for 3rd party developers. The platform is described from the perspective of a black box: the functions and features which are currently available are clearly described and the Application Programming Interface (API) is specified and illustrated with code examples. It is also described how client- and server components are linked together and communicate with the Vconect platform. This deliverable targets in particular third parties interested in using or exploring the capabilities of the Vconect platform, such as service providers of a social network. After reading this document, a web developer should be able to assess the value and effort of integrating video conferencing into his existing web application when using the Vconect platform API.
D3.6 Interim conceptual frameworks for expressing orchestration knowledge Vconect researches the development of systems that allow ad-hoc groups of people to enjoy real-time high-quality audio-video communication. Amongst other requirements, such set-ups necessarily require automatic video orchestration, i.e. a reasoning process that decides, in real-time, how to control the cameras and how to mix video originating from multiple sources for each screen. Although similar to TV and film grammars, such expertise – orchestration knowledge – does currently not exist. This deliverable is an interim report on advancements made with regards to orchestration knowledge elicitation in Vconect. More specifically it presents conceptual frameworks built to support (i) knowledge expression and modelling, proposing application independent concepts that can be employed in more rigorous expressions of orchestration knowledge and (ii) knowledge evaluation, presenting instruments for evaluating orchestration knowledge, validated in specific communication contexts through appropriate experimental inquiry.
D6.2 Results of Trial 1 and Design of Trial 2 This document describes the results of the first user trials carried out in the Vconect project. They were aimed at refining an experimental methodology, for future trials, at identifying drivers for the project’s technical developments, as well at inspiring subsequent experiments. The document presents the impact of the first trials and describes next experiments and future strands of research and implementation in Vconect.
D6.3 Results of experiments in year 2 The lessons learnt were applied to a field trial using SAPO-Campus, an educational social net-work environment. Analysis is in process but first results are very positive. The study highlights how Vconect socialisation technologies are finding their way out of the laboratory into the field. Comparing Orchestration with a static lay-out for video conferencing between three living rooms using HD TV’s resulted in findings no strong differences, highlighting that such communication does not translate directly to individuals at computers in multi-party video conferencing. Galvanic Skin Response was used to monitor audience response during a live theatre performance with the view to visualise remote audience feedback. The perceived quality of the “virtual” microphone was evaluated and we propose a test-battery to gauge quality of video conferencing experience. An overview of related research activities around distributed performance is listed. We detail the user research for the coming year.
D7.1 Project Website This document provides a snapshot of the Vconect website and explains the Typo3 Technology in which the Website has been setup.
D7.2.1 Newsletter-1 August 2012 Issue 1 of the Vconect Newsletters provides a short introduction to the project, its first experiments and some technological highlights. Technologically orchestration, multi-screen video composition and improved audio through a virtual microphone, as well as the concept of a service aware network are key to the project.
D7.2.2 Newsletter-2, October 2013 Issue 2 of the Vconect Newsletters provides a good overview on the progress of the Vconect project. Please read about the collaboration with Miracle Theatre Company on the theatre production in the Vconect performance use case, about the implementation of the Vconect platform in the SAPO Campus social network, or about the progress towards service aware networking.
D7.2.3 Newsletter-3, November 2014 Issue 3 of the Vconect Newsletters provides a good overview on the progress and results of the Vconect project. Please read about the new kind of theatre becoming possible with Vconect, the Vconect collaboration with the creativity incubator CultureHub, service aware network trials, and large scale SAPO Campus trials.
D7.4.1 Dissemination, Training and Standardisation Plan This document describes how the knowledge and the results of Vconect are being disseminated. It serves as a source of information to the public and the European Commission, and as guide for all Vconect consortium partners. The Vconect dissemination plan is a living document and re-issued annually. At the end of the Vconect project in November 2014 there will be a final version available which will also describe the plans for disseminating Vconect knowledge after closure of the project. This is the first issue of the Vconect Dissemination, Training and Standardisation Plan and naturally has open items, particularly concerning participating in concrete dissemination events. The next issue will become available in July 2013.
D7.4.2 Dissemination, Training and Standardisation Plan – issue 2 This document describes how the knowledge and the results of Vconect are being disseminated, the training carried out in the context of Vconect and the related standard activities. This is the second issue of the Vconect Dissemination, Training and Standardisation Plan. The next and final issue will become available in July 2014.
