Vconect: Helping Performers "Feel the Love"

Performers need to 'feel the love' from the audience, so says Bills Scott the creative director from Miracle theatre Company, but to understand what that means for the way remote audiences are represented to performers, Vconect has started a collaboration with CultureHub (, an incubator for creativity focused on the intersection of art and technology.

Andrew Webb (PhD student from the Interface Ecology Lab at Texas A&M University) has been ganted an internship at CWI facilitated by CultureHub and has been interviewing performing artists, in order to better understand the perceived advantages and challenges of distributed performances. In so doing, we have gained knowledge about how artists perceive audiences, and how engagement could be visualized to them.  Insights gained should help us help them 'feel the love'.

CultureHub connects artists from diverse disciplines and cultures and provides them with environments in which to collaborate, experiment and explore. CultureHub was founded in 2009 by the Seoul Institute of the Arts in Korea and La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club in New York City, and currently consists of four telepresence partnerships: Seoul Institute of the Arts (Seoul/Korea), La MaMa Experimental Theater Club (New York City/USA), CalArts (Los Angeles/USA), and Contact Theatre (Manchester/UK).
